“A gift for your host or hostess is a lovely way to thank them for their hospitality and is always appreciated“
-Emily Post
When it comes to a hostess gift, there are many factors to consider. What kind of event is it (a birthday, casual dinner, formal affair)? What is your budget? What is your relationship with the hostess? Once you figure all that out then it is time to get your gift together. This doesn’t need to be some elaborate or expensive gift just make sure you put some thought into it.
Hostess gifts could be something as simple as a bottle of wine or champagne or something more personal like a candle or picture frame. Below are some fun options that would work for any casual dinner party! Take some time to wrap them nicely and attach a small note. You want the hostess to know that you appreciate being invited.
Bottles of wine and champagne
If you decide to bring a bottle of wine or champagne, make sure it is one that you love to drink. Wrap it in tissue paper with a ribbon or better yet, put it in a cute wine tote with a note attached. Something like this from Etsy will make your simple bottle of wine become a fun, personal gift. While you are at it, buy a couple more totes and keep them in your wrapping paper drawer for a future easy, last minute hostess gift.
Flowers
Flowers are always a great idea. What is an even better idea? Flowers already in a vase. Even just adding them to a mason jar helps out. Otherwise, you are making more work for your hostess by having her have to put them in a vase. Simple and thoughtful always wins.
Personalized Gifts
If you have the time to personalize a gift, do it! Nothing says that you put the time and effort into a gift than when you have it personalized. Tea towels with the hostess’ initials on it or a tea towel with a saying or quote on it is always a fun idea.
Taste Specific Gifts
Make sure you know your hostess well for these ones. Try to get something that would compliment their home, interests or personality. Candles, coffee table books or picture frames are great options here.
