July Fourth has always been one of my favorite holidays- the fireworks, picnics, family time- I love the whole package.
Typically, the BBQ’s we attend have paper plates filled with hot dogs, burgers, baked beans, and corn. This will always be a favorite of mine but every once in a while, I try to think outside of the box and give the holiday what it really deserves. I did a July 4th party last year which was also celebrating my Dad’s 70th birthday. I used a little old and a little new but tried to keep the red, white and blue strong.
For the table, I used burlap as the table cloth with a patriotic runner from Pottery Barn (Find it here). My mom supplied the plates from her Blue Willow collection and I had the galvanized tin chargers. I used red and blue bandanas for napkins and we used these in red, white and blue for the silverware.
I soaked small flags in coffee and then baked them for a minute to get the aged effect, then mounted them in wine corks. I used these for the food labels.
For our menu, we went with BBQ because that is my Dad’s favorite food. But another option would be a burger bar! It would be great for a budget friendly party and easy for your guests to bring sides. Fill mason jars with different sauces and toppings such as mushrooms, fried onions, relish, bacon, ketchup, mustard, mayo, etc. The possibilities are endless!
Whether you throw a BBQ, attend a BBQ or just spend the time with your family and friends, Have a Happy and Safe July Fourth!
