Did you know that July is National ice cream month?! This is a dangerous thing that I know this… just sayin’.
Get ready to be overloaded with all my favorite ice cream flavors, how to serve it, how to cook it… the list goes on and on and on and on…you get the point. Don’t be fooled into thinking it takes so much time and effort to make your own, because it doesn’t. Any time that you put into making it, you will not regret it! The difference is worth it!
This is my ice cream base that I always use and then I flavor it from there. This is adapted from Martha Stewart.
This is adapted from Martha Stewart and is a great base to ice cream.
- 8 egg yolks
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 cups milk
- 2 cups heavy cream
In a saucepan, off the heat, whisk together the sugar, salt and egg yolks.
Slowly whisk in the milk.
Cook over medium heat for about ten minutes, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon, until the custard coats the back of the spoon.
Pour the custard through a sieve into a glass bowl.
Stir in the heavy cream.
If using flavorings, add them now. Chill the mixture in the fridge until cooled completely.
Pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and churn until desired consistency.
